I offer poetry workshops and craft-focused classes for beginning and experienced writers. I also offer services as a writing coach.
I've been teaching writing in public schools, universities, and community organizations since 2012, but deciding to offer classes as an independent artist is new for me! Writing doesn't need to be done alone. I want to help you discover what's possible in your own writing. Above all, I want you to stay curious about growing as a writer.
Please read the descriptions below and reach out if you're interested. I'm always updating the website as I develop new programs and classes.
I'd love to hear from you.
"Of all the poetry classes I have taken this year (5), this was the one I learned the most from . . . Tim is a thinker and he leads us through his thought process and those of the poets we have read with gentle guidance."
"Tim dismantles the workshop in the best possible way. He centers the poet/writer and their voice. This means that the authority is with the author, and all the participants work as allies in the cause of their writing."
Workshops & classes
Writers develop their own style by reading diverse, contemporary writers, and sharing their work in a supportive, empowering space. This workshop model puts the writer in charge of how their work is discussed, so that workshop time is aligned with their personal goals as a writer. Inspired and informed by The Antiracist Writing Workshop by Felicia Rose Chavez.
Open to all writers 18 years and older.
8 weeks / Thursdays 6 - 8 pm
$160 / tiered pricing available
Next class starts: 17 June 2021
Chapbooks & zines!
We'll develop our own style while reading, writing, and sharing poetry in a supportive workshop environment. We'll also learn some simple bookbinding techniques that we can use to make our own chapbooks and zines. Students will write lots of new poems, build positive writing habits, and practice some collage, photography, and illustration in designing their books.
Open to all writers ages 13 to 17 years old.
8 weeks / Thursdays 3 - 5 pm
$140 / tiered pricing available
Next class starts: 17 June 2021
Writing coaching can look like a lot of different things: revising and editing a manuscript or essay, reinvigorating work that feels "stuck," tuning an artist statement or cover letter, or building positive habits and mindsets so you can feel good about your writing. Because writing doesn't need to be done alone.
Sessions are casual and designed around you and your writing goals. My own writing emphasizes hybrid and experimental forms, and collaborations with other artists. Meaning, whatever you're doing, I'm interested.
Here is what you get when you sign up:
1 hour-long "microworkshops" each week
Comments and line edits on up to 20 pages each week
Unwavering positive support!
